Dream Costume Creations is made up of a team of seamstresses, designers, and specialty craftsmen. Each individual in our team brings a variety of skills to the table. Costumes incorporate a number of different skills from beginning to end in some of the most intricate details. Combining these skill sets allow us to offer some of the most detailed and complicated costumes on the market at a professional level.
Silk Painting - The art of painting silk in a variety of patterns, shapes, and dying. A piece of silk is custom dyed and can reflect certain colors, interests, and shapes. Once a piece of silk is dyed we can embellish it with borders of beads, ribbons, trims, and more. Custom silk painting can be turned into capes, shawls, flags, and more.
Beadwork - The art of applying beads to a garment. This can include beaded fringe at the end of a scarf or at the hem of a dress. Full costumes made of beads can be done such as beaded bras, belts, and headbands or headpieces. Beadwork can be applied to a custom costume to add to its luxury. You can see a variety of bead concepts in our costume galleries from sleeve embellishments, to full body embellishments, to decorative front panels.
Screen Printing - The art of creating patterns and heat pressing them onto a garment. This comes in handy when you have an intricate cutout on the front of your costume or in any piece where you don't want the thread to show. This is great for embellishing complex shapes and swirls and can go where a sewing machine can't. Designs are created, cut, and heat pressed onto the garment and embellished instead of sewn in.
Embroidery - The art of patterns in thread. Embroidered costumes add a nice finish, particularly helpful in medieval and royalty costumes. Gold threaded embellishments or the color of your choice can follow on any garment in a wide range of patterns. Our ability to incorporate embroidery into our costume designs sets us apart from our competition and turns a plain tunic into a work of art. A full range of standard and custom designs are available from names, to shapes, to patterns, to animals and creatures and can be applied to most fabrics.
Corsetry & Undergarments - It takes a particular skill to perfect shaping and period style undergarments. We have over 40 years of expertise in creating custom corsetry and undergarments. From bustle cages to lavish corsets, these items will shape you into your costume whether seen or unseen. Corsetry can also incorporate other skills such as beadwork, printing, and embroidery to add worlds of variety at your fingertips. Not all companies that make corsets are able to design them to fit and shape properly, we do!
Millinery - The art of hat making. Many period costumes require a number of different styles of bonnets, hats, and headwear. Our team can make hats from scratch with enormous appeal for festivals, conventions, and more. Hats can be made from just about any time period.
Welding - The art of shaping metal and piecing metal together. This particular skill comes in handy on projects that require armor for battles or warrior costumes. It includes cutting and shaping, however we do not have the capability to create objects out of metal such as weaponry, belt buckles, etc. Some more complicated pieces may be sent to one of our specialty partners for styling.
Wood Carving - The art of sculpting wood into shapes. This skill comes in handy for staffs and props which can be shaped, sanded down, and polished for movie characters or re-enactment accessories. Some more complicated pieces may be sent to one of our specialty partners for styling.
Jewelry Making - This skill goes along with a lot of beadwork that you will see re-occuring in our costumes. We can assemble custom made pieces combining lace, beads, swarovsky crystals, and more to make original pieces of jewelry for costumes, historical re-enactments, Victorian wear, and more. There are pieces of original jewelry we have constructed in our costume galleries for view.
Crystalizing - This combines embroidery or sometimes just crystals by themselves to accent a garment. Usually an embroidered design is put down on a garment and can be left plain, crystalized, or beaded to bring out the design and add luxury. Crystalizing can be done with hats, names, designs, and more. Examples can be seen in our costume galleries.
Body Jewelry - Includes shaping metal into arm-bands, head-pieces, leg-cuffs, etc. to form intricate pieces on the body. Metal can be etched or engraved with artwork to add character symbols or designs. Includes custom molded jewelry and pieces that can include beadwork or etching detail.
Painting - The details of a costume sometimes can include props worn on the body that need to be sculpted and painted. Painting can also also be incorporated as part of silk painting, or to add embellishment onto metals, plastics, leather, and other such pieces.
Leather- Leather comes in handy in a variety of costumes. It can be used to make corsets, bull body suits like Cat-woman or Batman, certain accessories like strappings on the arm, pieces of armor, roman soldiers, and more. Leather can be laid down as a foundation and incorporated with other materials to make sturdy final pieces. It is great as a base for jewelry, to make intricate belts, to stud, decorate, and paint into very high end pieces.
Airbrushing- Airbrush paint over costume pieces such as armor, symbols into fabric, etc.
Prop Making & Weaponry - Some of the most beautiful pieces are hand crafted utilizing a series of molders, casters, metal-works, and specialty construction shops to be shaped and primed before returning to our shop for final embellishment and design. We utilize a highly skilled network of specialty shops with facilities to mold out of metals, plastics, and so forth for prop making and weaponry to give you the highest quality crafted piece. We unfortunately do not have the equipment to do these in-house but work with people who do.
Lightworks Department- A department dedicated to wiring, circuitry, and building lights into costumes and mascots.
Plastics- Unfortunately we do not have the ability to craft items out of plastic. A lot of the superhero characters that have plastic belts, armor, helmets, and such are usually licensed costumes and you will need to purchase licenced accessories. We have a partner dealing in plastics that can do basic cutout pieces only.
